Journal Ahkam of UIN Jakarta Enters Top 100 Best Law Journals in the World
Rectorate Building, UIN Online News—The scientific journal published by the Faculty of Sharia and Law at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Journal Ahkam: Journal of Sharia Studies, has achieved a remarkable feat by entering the top 100 best law journals in the world according to the SCImago Journal & Country Rank 2023. Furthermore, in the same version, the journal specializing in publishing articles on Islamic legal research ranks among the top eight scientific journals in the field of religious studies worldwide.
The global ranking achieved by Journal Ahkam was announced by SCImago Journal & Country Rank 2023 on its website (https://www.scimagojr.com/). According to its rankings, Journal Ahkam is positioned at number 93 among global law journals, with a Quartile 1 acquisition and an SJR of 0.680 out of a total of 926 law journals worldwide.
In this ranking, Journal Ahkam stands as the only law journal from the Asian region to make it into the top 100 law journals worldwide. The majority of the top 100 world journals are filled with law journals from the United Kingdom (42 journals), the United States (40 journals), the Netherlands (10 journals), Switzerland (4 journals), and other European countries such as Spain, Germany, and Ireland, each with 1 journal.
Several journals included in the top 100 worldwide are contributed by various leading universities. These include the International Organization Journal by Cambridge University Press (world rank 1), Stanford Law Review by Stanford Law School (world rank 8), Harvard Law Review by Harvard Law Review Association (world rank 16).
Additionally, Journal Ahkam has achieved an impressive international ranking by securing a position among the top eight best scientific journals in the world according to the SCImago Journal & Country Rank 2023 for the field of religious studies. This ranking is based on an assessment of 571 international journals in the field of religious studies.
In this ranking, Journal Ahkam stands alongside the best world journals in religious studies. These include the Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion (Wiley-Blackwell), Sociology of Religion (Association for the Sociology of Religion), Journal of Religion and Health (Kluwer Academic/Human Sciences Press Inc.), among others.
It is noted that Journal Ahkam is published by the Faculty of Sharia and Law at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta in collaboration with the Indonesian Association of Sharia Scholars and Researchers (HISSI). Since 2019, the journal has been published twice a year, in June and December.
Journal Ahkam focuses on publishing research articles on Islamic law. Therefore, the journal provides a platform for researchers from related disciplines, covering subjects such as Islamic Family Law, Islamic Criminal Law, Islamic Economic Law, Islamic Constitutional Law, Islamic Law and Gender, Islamic Law and Society, and Islamic Law and Politics.
Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi Kharlie M.A. M.H., welcomes the achievement of Journal Ahkam. "This achievement is very proud for UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, especially for the academic community of the Faculty of Sharia and Law," he said.
Professor Tholabi added that this achievement is extraordinary considering that Journal Ahkam is the only law journal from the Asian region to be included in the top 100 best law journals in the world. "Moreover, Journal Ahkam ranks among the top eight world journals in religious studies," he added.
The Editor in Chief of Journal Ahkam, Prof. Dr. Khamami Zada M.A., expressed gratitude for the support of the leadership and academic community of UIN Jakarta for this achievement. According to him, this achievement is not the result of individual work, but the result of collective dedication from all parties.
"This is a symbol of our commitment to academic excellence and scholarly integrity. Every article we publish, every research we conduct, and every discussion we initiate has contributed to this prestigious achievement," he said.
Separately, Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar M.A. Ph.D., also congratulated Journal Ahkam for its global achievement. According to him, the achievement of this journal greatly contributes to strengthening UIN Jakarta as one of the best universities in the field of law.
"I would like to express my highest appreciation to the entire editorial team of Journal Ahkam who have worked tirelessly. To the authors who have contributed high-quality scholarly works. To the reviewers who have maintained the academic standards of our journal. And of course, to the readers who have provided moral and intellectual support," he appreciated.
Furthermore, Rector Asep Jahar evaluated that this achievement is the first step for UIN Jakarta to continue pushing for the improvement of academic publication quality. "Let us take this as motivation to further enhance the quality of our research and scholarly publications. Hopefully, in the future, Journal Ahkam can continue to be recognized internationally and become a primary reference in the field of law and religious studies," he concluded.
