Halalbihalal Ceremony, Rector Emphasizes Strengthening UIN Jakarta's Global Reputation

Auditorium Harun Nasution, UIN Online News - The State Islamic University of Jakarta held a post-Ramadan gathering for the UIN Jakarta community in 1445 H / 2024 M. This gathering, titled "Weaving Brotherhood, Achieving Progress: Together Building UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta's Global Reputation," took place at the Auditorium Harun Nasution on Tuesday 23/04/2024.

The post-Ramadan gathering was attended by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A, PhD, former Rector from 1992-1998, Prof. Dr. AG. K.H, Al habib Muhammad Quraish Shihab, Lc, M.A, former Rector from 2019-2023, Prof. Dr. Hj. Amany Burhanuddin Umar Lubis, Lc, MA, as well as deans, vice deans, several lecturers, and students.

During the opening remarks of the gathering, the current Rector of UIN Jakarta expressed that the university's journey until now is a continuation of the struggles of its predecessors. Therefore, this post-Ramadan gathering serves as a nostalgic moment for the founding fathers of UIN who haven't met in a long time.

"This is the legacy of UIN being at the forefront in the context of Islam and Islamic renewal in Indonesia," he said.

Currently, Islam in Indonesia is diverse. Asep Saepudin explained that it can be said, exaggeratingly, that without UIN, Islam in Indonesia wouldn't have the current character, being acceptable, moderate, and serving as an example in the context of Islam worldwide.

"Therefore, we also want to track what makes UIN stand out. We will try to place UIN in a global context,"

The McGill University graduate Rector revealed that UIN is currently seeking distinction, where the university has strength in the context of theology and religion. Currently, UIN Jakarta has achieved a world ranking between 101 and 141.

"This achievement is not sudden; it is certainly an investment from the founding fathers of UIN since the beginning,"

"But now we need to find points of innovation. What we need to strengthen in the future, because the challenges are different, the strengths are different, and the competitive landscape is also different, so we will and must be within that reach," he added.

During the post-Ramadan gathering, Asep outlined plans for the coming years. In the future, UIN Jakarta will be at the forefront in the context of a green campus. Additionally, UIN Jakarta will also focus on strengthening independence, which will reinforce the business context because without business, campus independence is difficult to compete.

"Not only that, UIN will also strengthen digitalization, reform, and bureaucracy. These four agendas are part of shaping UIN's presence on the global stage,"

"Once again, this is what we are developing. Let's work together sincerely, strongly. God willing, success in the future will be evident. Without cooperation, we cannot succeed, so this is the legacy of the founding fathers; let's develop it together," he added.
