We must remain vigilant in our efforts against the spread of Covid-19

Rectorate, UIN News Online – As we begins to recover from the recent Covid-19 surge, we must remain vigilant in our efforts against the spread of Covid-19. This requires cooperation and awareness with all parties.

These are the conclusions of the international conference held by the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UIN Jakarta, Thursday (10/28/2021) entitled “Embracing a Post Pandemic World: Reflection on Shifting Trends and Challenges in Global Health Politics”.

The conference which was opened directly by the Dean of FISIP UIN Jakarta Ali Munhanif presented Jessica Kirk from Griffith University, Dicky Budiman from Griffith University, and Irfan R. Hutagalung from FISIP UIN Jakarta as resource persons.

In his presentation, Kirk revealed that the spread of the Covid-19 virus knows no boundaries. The virus will target anyone. Given these characteristics, Kirk said that handling the spread of this virus cannot be solved alone. It requires collaboration and cooperation of all levels of society.

“The supply of medical products needed during the pandemic has not been able to meet the needs of the current crisis situation,”he said.

In line with Kirk, Dicky explained that we need to introduce and activate a coordinating body that unites the central and local governments in handling the COVID-19 pandemic. This can be an effective way to overcome the spread of the pandemic.

On the other hand, Irfan said that the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic also left international legal problems. This is as marked by the United States government's lawsuit against China. The lawsuit itself is based on allegations that China covered up the first Covid-19 case in Wuhan, China.

For information, as of November 1, 2021, the number of people who have been confirmed positive for COVID-19 nationwide is 4,244,761 people with a cumulative death of 143,423 people. And those who were recovered reached 4,089,419 people. (usa/zm)
