Strengthening Cooperation, the Government of Turkiye Opens Yunus Emre Institute at UIN Jakarta
Main Auditorium, UIN News Online – The government of Turkiye choose UIN Jakarta chose as its strategic partner in opening a language and culture representative office in Indonesia, the Yunus Emre Institute or Yunus Emre Enstitusu (YEE). Through this institution, Turkiye hopes to strengthen diplomatic relations through educational and cultural aspects the two countries.
The opening ceremony was carried out directly by President of Yunus Emre Enstitusu Seref Ates with the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis in the Main Auditorium Building, Tuesday (12/13/2022) witnessed by the Indonesian Ambassador to Turkiye Lalu Muhammad Iqbal and officials from both the government of Turkiye as well as officials from UIN Jakarta.
In his remarks, President of YEE Seref Ates revealed that Turkiye-Indonesia relations have been going on for a long time and need to be maintained. One of them is by strengthening cultural relations, such as by opening the Yunus Emre Institute.
Ates really hopes that the opening of YEE can run optimally in strengthening Turkiye-Indonesian cooperation.
“Through our representative offices abroad, we will carry out activities in the fields of educational diplomacy, cultural diplomacy and science diplomacy throughout Indonesia,” said Ates.
In response, the Rector of UIN Jakarta greatly appreciates the cooperation. According to Amany, relationship between the two countries have been established since the 16th century AD in the era of the Ottoman Empire and other sultanates in the archipelago.
“In history, cooperation between Turkey and Indonesia has long been established, both in the economic field, as well as in the field of shipping, as well as in the political and security fields, because the sultanate in Indonesia since 500-600 years ago had asked for military assistance from the Ottoman Turks,” said Rector Amany.
In fact, she said, evidence of the relationship between the Ottoman Turks and the sultanates in the archipelago was still stored in the Yogyakarta Palace. Amany said the document was still stored today. “Anyone can see it when visiting the Kraton of Yogyakarta,” she added.
For information, President of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan founded the Yunues Emre Institute with the aim of building closer human ties. The name of the institution itself refers to a Turkish national figure Yunus Emre who is known for his peacebuilding efforts.
Turkiye opened Yunus Emre Enstitusu in a number of countries in order to build diplomatic and cultural partnerships with the target of forming 100 cultural offices outside Turkey. This amount is in line with the 100th anniversary of the Turkiye Republic. (contributor/zm/usa)
