43 Students Attended Academic Research Training
Diorama Room, UIN NEWS—43 students of UIN Jakarta followed academic research training for two days, Monday-Tuesday (05-06/10). The training which was organized by the Office for Student Affairs would hopefully grow academic research tradition and research on it for the students to prepare themselves after graduation. Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Yusron Razak MA, uttered that the students who participated in the training were coming from various faculties. They were a few selected sudents who successfully passed tight procedures. The Professor in Anthropology added that such training could be considered as an in-depth training of Research Method course that is a compulsory subject in all departments. “Through this program, it is hoped that an academic research tradition can be internalized within our students while they were still in the Undergraduate study,†he said. Speakers for the taining were lecturer-researcher active under the coordination of Institute for Research and Community Outreach (Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian Masyarakat/LP2M). They were the Head of LP2M Dr. M. Arskal Salim GP MA, Dr Rena Latifa, the Head of Puslitpen Wahdi Sayuti, and Secretary of LP2M Dr Imam Subchi MA. During the training, Arskal who had been involved in numerous academic researches talked about the Qualitative Research Method, while Rena delivered material about the Quantitative Research Method. Meanwhile, Wahdi and Subchi spoke about Technique in Formulating Research Proposal and Technique in Organizing Research Report, respectively. In the end of the training, the participants also received the material on Academic Research Writing. Within the observation of UIN News, the two-day training has been successful in attracting students to participate. While coming from various faculties, the participants from Faculty of Ushuluddin and Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Keguruan) had the biggest number in the training. The students participants also expressed their positive appreciation towards the training. One of them was Muhammad Hanifudin. The student who is currently sitting in the 9th semester , Political Science Department said that he received a quite many amount of knowledge about academic research writing compared to what he got in the class. Same as Muhammad, Hikmawati who is sitting in the 3rd semester of Islamic Broadcasting Communication, Faculty of Da’wa and Communication Science, admitted that she feel challenged to deepen her skill in research writing. “Though I have not yet taken class on Research Method, through this training I feel challenged to know more about the research process,†said Hikmawati. While Ika Wahyuni, student participant of the training who is currently sitting in the 9th semester of Comparison of Religions Department, Faculty of Ushuluddin, admitted that she felt that the training has been helpful for her in writing her thesis. The final-year student felt helped in determining the operational method of research approach to her thesis. “I hope that this training can be organized regularly and sustainably.
