Young Generation Aiming for Sharia Economic Transformation, UIN Jakarta's Sharia Economics Study Program Holds ECO Fest
Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN News Online — Sharia Economics Study Program, State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta successfully held ECOFest, a national seminar that combines the spirit of sharia economic development with active participation in democracy on Friday, November 8, 2024. The event brought together experts, practitioners, and students to discuss the role of the younger generation in advancing Islamic economics in Indonesia.
With the theme “Optimizing the role of Rabbani economy through developing the potential of young people with a transformative sharia foundation”, ECOFest aims to produce young economists who not only master sharia economics, but also have concern for current issues in Indonesia, including the dynamics of democracy.
Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Ibnu Qizam, SE, M.Si, Ak, CA, in his speech appreciated the organization of this event. He emphasized the relevance of the theme to the vision of UIN Jakarta as a green campus, which is in line with environmental conservation efforts. “FEB students, especially sharia economics study programs, must be pioneers in managing waste and natural resources sustainably,” he said.
Vice Rector for Cooperation and Institutional Development, Din Wahid, MA, Ph.D., in his opening remarks symbolically emphasized the importance of the role of the younger generation, especially Islamic economics students, in advancing Islamic economics in Indonesia. “As a country with a majority Muslim population, Indonesia must be a leader in the development of Islamic economics,” he said.
The discussion session, which presented competent speakers from various backgrounds, such as Putri Almainda Kamila (Economist of the Department of Sharia Economics and Finance of Bank Indonesia), Yoga Aditya Herlambang (President Commissioner of Bank Syariah Indonesia), and M. Hasbi Zaenal, PH.D. (Director of the BAZNAS Center for Studies & Strategy), provided in-depth insights into the development of Islamic economics, opportunities for the younger generation, and the role of zakat in realizing inclusive education.
In addition to seminars, ECOFest was also enlivened with various activities, such as creative dance performances, socialization of the General Election Commission (KPU), and a screening of a documentary film about democracy. The Chairman of the Banten KPU in his speech emphasized the importance of public participation in elections as an indicator of the success of democracy.
The Head of the Sharia Economics Study Program, Ali Rama, S.E., M.Ex., Ph.D., hopes that this activity can be a good first step in producing competent young people who care about nation building. “Through ECOFest, we want to provide provisions for students to actively contribute to building a better Indonesian economy,” he said.
ECOFest is not only a place to share knowledge, but also a place for young people to interact and build networks. With the spirit of collaboration and innovation, participants are expected to become agents of change that bring positive impacts to society and the country.
