UIN Jakarta Da'wah Expert: The Importance of Being a Muslimah with Character in the Era of Disruption
Ciputat, UIN Online News - "Being a Muslimah with character is very important in this era of disruption," said lecturer and expert on Da'wah, Social and Cultural Communication Dr. Rubiyanah Jalil M.A at the Ramadan Series Study. The study is entitled "Muslimah Character Building in the Disruption Era" organized by the Social Trust Fund (STF) UIN Jakarta online on the Zoom platform on Monday (18/3/2024).
Dr. Rubiyanah said that the era of disruption, marked by the rapid development of digital activities, has a complex impact on the character of Muslim women. Sudden changes and complexities that occur in various aspects of life give rise to new challenges that need to be faced wisely by Muslim women.
She said that the effects of the disruption era not only include renewed ways of working, business transformation, economic disparities, changes in interaction and communication, but also bring ethical and privacy challenges that must be overcome.
According to her, in the changing patterns of interaction and communication, it is important for Muslim women to be able to adapt to technological developments. Not just using gadgets or computers, but being able to filter information, protect themselves from the negative influence of social media and be wise in utilizing social media.
"In the era of disruption, a Muslimah needs to be able to filter information, be able to maintain self-reading and know the limits of privacy and uphold ethics in social media," she said.
In addition, Ruby added that social involvement and leadership character that understands the values and norms in society are key in shaping the character of a strong Muslimah in the era of disruption.
"A Muslimah must also be able to socialize in the surrounding environment and have leadership character. If she understands the basic values in society, the Muslimah will become a tough person and not be abandoned," she added.
Dr. Rubiyanah, who also serves as the Board of Experts of the Indonesian Islamic Broadcasting Communication Association (ASKOPIS), highlighted the importance of mental and emotional resilience, as well as continuous self-development for Muslim women. This is important so that they remain relevant and able to face the challenges that exist, without losing the roots of good Islamic values.
Thus, Dr. Rubiyanah encouraged Muslim women to maintain their good character, including kindness and the ability to get along adaptively. Muslimah character building in the era of disruption requires a balance between technological advancement and religious values, as well as awareness of social and moral responsibility in interactions with the surrounding environment. Through a strong character based on Islamic values, Muslim women are expected to be agents of positive change amidst the dynamics of this disruption era.
