UIN Jakarta Confers Professorships on Seven Academics, Marks Milestone in Higher Education

Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN Online News—UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta marked a significant academic milestone by officially inaugurating seven new full professors at the Harun Nasution Auditorium on Wednesday (January 14, 2026). The addition of these scholars is expected to strengthen academic contributions while further solidifying UIN Jakarta’s position as a leading State Islamic Higher Education Institution (PTKIN) in Indonesia.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Rector of UIN Jakarta Prof. Asep Saepuddin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D.; Chair of the University Senate Prof. Dr. Dede Rosyada, M.A.; Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi, S.Ag., S.H., M.H., M.A.; Vice Rector for General Administration Prof. Dr. Imam Subchi, M.A.; Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Ali Munhanif, M.A., Ph.D.; faculty deans; and members of the academic community.

The Open Senate Session was formally opened by the Chair of the University Senate, Prof. Dr. Dede Rosyada, M.A. The official conferment of professorships was led by Rector Prof. Asep Saepuddin Jahar, who presented appointment decrees and ceremonial sashes to each newly appointed professor.

Three Professors Appointed Under the Ministry of Higher Education

Based on the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia No. 236833123313/M/KPTTTKP/2025, effective July 1, 2025, three professors were inaugurated:

• Prof. Dr. Gun Gun Heryanto, M.Si., Full Professor of Political Communication

• Prof. Dr. Agus Salim, S.Ag., M.Si., Full Professor of Applied Biology (Ecology)

• Prof. Husni Teja Sukmana, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Full Professor of Artificial Intelligence

Four Professors Appointed Under the Ministry of Religious Affairs

Four other professors were inaugurated based on Decrees of the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia No. 200981, 201018, 201026, and 201036/MA/KP.07.6/2025, effective October 1, 2025:

• Prof. Dr. H. M. Yakub, M.A., Full Professor of Islamic History and Civilization

• Prof. Dr. Drs. K.H. Mujar Ibnu Syarif, S.H., M.Ag., Full Professor of Comparative Islamic Constitutional Law

• Prof. Dr. H. Mahsusi, M.M., Full Professor of Human Resource Management in Islamic Education

• Prof. Dr. H. Kholid Al-Walid, M.Ag., Full Professor of Islamic Philosophy

A particularly notable moment in this inauguration was the appointment of Prof. Husni Teja Sukmana as the first Full Professor of Artificial Intelligence within PTKIN nationwide, highlighting UIN Jakarta’s strategic commitment to developing modern digital technologies integrated with Islamic values.

Rector Prof. Asep Saepuddin Jahar expressed deep pride in the inauguration of the seven professors.

“Today, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta celebrates a joyful moment with the presence of our newly inaugurated professors. This is an achievement that is far from easy,” he said.

He also emphasized that the title of professor carries a moral responsibility beyond academic distinction.

“A professorship is the highest academic achievement and, essentially, a mandate. Knowledge is not for oneself alone, but for the wider community. Therefore, I urge our esteemed professors to continue contributing and creating benefits for society,” he affirmed.

With the inauguration of these seven new professors, UIN Jakarta further strengthens its standing as the PTKIN with the largest number of professors while opening a new chapter in the development of knowledge that integrates technological advancement with Islamic values.
