UIN Jakarta and Erasmus+ CBHE Launch Global Initiative for Medical Excellence
Medical Building, UIN Online News – In response to the increasingly dynamic demands of the healthcare world, the Faculty of Medicine (FK) at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta is taking proactive steps through the "Culture and Health-system Adaptation of Virtual Patients as Collaborative Learning e-Resources Southeast Asia," (CHAPTER SEA) workshop. This health education project focuses on curriculum development and strengthening international collaboration to produce medical graduates with adaptive competence to the latest medical technology.
The event, held on Monday (4/20/2026) on the 5th floor of the UIN Jakarta Medical Building, was attended by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, Ph.D.; the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. Achmad Zaki, M.Epid., SpOT., FICS.; and Vice Dean Dr. dr. Fika Ekayanti, M.Med.Ed. The workshop also welcomed delegates from prestigious institutions, including Karolinska Institute, Jagiellonian University, Universiti Malaya, Taylor's University, Universiti Putra Malaysia, and Gadjah Mada University.
Regarding the urgency of faculty development, Asep Saepudin Jahar expressed his hope that this initiative would bolster the university's reputation through cross-border collaboration and integration with global research. He envisions UIN Jakarta becoming a center of excellence and a model for academic leadership on a global scale.
“I assure that this workshop is meant to train our medical student according to the international standard. So please, share as much knowledge to us,” he stated.
Aligning with the CHAPTER SEA vision, Achmad Zaki explained the importance of transforming medical education with a focus on patient safety and clinical competency. He noted that while the integration of technologies like virtual learning and virtual patients is now essential, it must remain grounded in bioethical and spiritual values.
"Competence is vital, but safety is non-negotiable. That is the standard we set for our alumni. To meet the country's need for secure healthcare, we have embraced virtual learning as a bridge. Virtual patients represent the perfect synergy of medical ethics and technological transformation, ensuring our future doctors are ready for the real world,” he added.
Technology expert Andrzej Kononowicz highlighted that digital transformation through virtual patients proves that advanced technology is becoming increasingly inclusive. With the ease of use offered by the CASUS platform and content support from inkr.app, the medical curriculum can be updated in real-time to maintain the quality of student learning.
“Just by clicking on a few buttons without any programming skills, new content can be added and instantly made available to medical students for their learning,” Kononowicz shared.
Therefore, CHAPTER SEA becomes an international collaborative project marking a strategic step in global education initiatives. Supported by funding from the Erasmus+ CBHE (Capacity Building in Higher Education) program, it operates through a partnership between academic institutions across Europe and Southeast Asia.
