UIN Jakarta Agrees to Collaborate with PT Produksi Film Negara

Rectorate, UIN News Online – UIN Jakarta agrees to collaborate with PT Produksi Film Negara. This agreement is documented in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both parties on Wednesday (7/8/2024) at the main meeting room, campus I of UIN Jakarta. This cooperation includes involvement in festivals, competitions, internships, funding, and entry into the film industry.

The event was attended by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi, S.Ag., S.H., M.H., M.A., and Head of Center for International Cooperation, Prof. Maila Dinia Husni Rahiem, M.A., Ph.D..

Also present in the event, Rector's Special Staff, Prof. Kusmana, S.Ag., M.A., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Science (Fdikom), Dr. Gun Gun Heryanto, M.Si., Dean of the Faculty of Adab Humanities, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, S.Ag., S.S., M.Hum., CIQnR and Vice Dean III of Fdikom, Drs. M Muhtadi, MA.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Asep highlighted the significance of the collaboration between UIN Jakarta and PFN. He mentioned that this partnership would provide a platform for students and the academic community to nurture their talents and interests in the film industry. Furthermore, he added that PFN could assist in promoting a green campus initiative through visual storytelling.

“This collaboration is highly relevant as it can support UIN Jakarta, which is currently focused on developing a green campus. Addressing issues such as waste, pollution, and poor water management through film demonstrates our commitment to environmental and climate issues,” he emphasized.

Prof. Tholabi further noted that UIN Jakarta has qualified human resources ready to engage in this collaboration with PFN. He pointed out that many UIN Jakarta alumni have established successful careers in the media industry.

“We have numerous prominent figures from UIN Jakarta who are active in various fields, including film. However, their expertise tends to be spread across different areas,” he stated.

Sutjiati Eka Tjandrasari, the Production Director of PFN, expressed that the opportunity for collaboration is an honor. She stressed that in today's globalized era, visuals are crucial, as all information is conveyed through visual media.

“The key is how we present these visuals—the person behind the camera,” she remarked.

Eka also stated that the purpose of this collaboration is to enhance human resources. Through the ecosystem at PFN, it is hoped that more opportunities will arise for students and the academic community to create works in the film industry.

In response to this, Dr. Gun Gun Heryanto highlighted the strong interest among students in his faculty regarding the visual industry. He mentioned that Fdikom has three majors closely related to film: Journalism, Broadcasting, and Islamic Communication and Broadcasting (KPI).

These three majors even have specialized platforms such as Dakwah and Television Communication (DNK TV), Da'wah and Communication Radio (RDK), and other film enthusiast communities.

“This indicates that many individuals are genuinely focused on channeling their interests and talents into the film industry,” he emphasized.

He also added that while there is significant enthusiasm among students for pursuing careers in film, many often face financial challenges. Dr. Gun hopes that the collaboration between UIN Jakarta and PFN can provide the necessary operational support for film production.

“Many short films and independent films submitted to festivals often encounter financing issues,” he concluded. (Aji Pangestu/Fauziah M./Syarifah Nur K./Photo: Muhammad Fahri Afrizal)
