To Understand Women's True Justice, PSGA Encourages Gender Experts to Interpret Women's Justice Perspectives
Student Center Hall, UIN Online News - Center for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held a seminar and breakfasting together. The seminar was titled "Tafsir Perspective of Women's Ultimate Justice" in the Student Center Hall, Wednesday, 27/3/2024.
The event was attended by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Ahmad Tholabi, S.Ag., S.H, M.H, M.A, Head of PSGA, Dr. Hj. Wiwi Sajaroh, M.Ag, Dean of FISIP, Prof. Dzuriyatun Thoyibah, Msi, M.A, Founder of Islamic Gender Studies, Dr. Nur Rofiah, Bil. Uzm, Lecturer at Nahdatul Ulama University of Indonesia, Binti Khoiriyah, M.Pd, a number of vice deans, and a number of students.
Wiwi said in his speech that in 2024 PSGA will hold a gender academy program. The gender academy will be conducted by all faculties at UIN Jakarta. For the gender academy program itself, the Faculty of Health Sciences is the first faculty to hold a gender academy, followed by other faculties.
"Dear Mr. Vice Rector (Ahmad Tholabie), please support PSGA in the gender academy program that we will focus on. Currently, PSGA is making a lot of decrees," he said.
Meanwhile, Tholabi argued that humans are actually equal between men and women in the Qur'an, but the meaning of equality between men and women began to shift due to interpretation.
"In the Qur'an there are many verses that show equality. Islam highly upholds equality between men and women, for example in Surah al-Hujurat verse 13," he said.
"When viewed from humanity, women and men in Islam place the same position in the implementation of worship obligations. In addition, women and men also carry the same burden of faith. I strongly support the program carried out by PSGA in providing a gender perspective, "he said.
In discussing the interpretation of the perspective of women's ultimate justice, gender expert Nur Rofiah revealed that the term man is the leader of women but that term is not entirely true. In fact, many Indonesian women are the head of the family. That's why many non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are engaged in empowering women heads of households.
"Discussing the true justice of women, there is a forum that brings together women around the world who share their experiences," she said.
"In that forum, the important point at issue is why the more Islamic a person, society, or country is, the more difficult it is to fulfill women's rights," she added.
"The wrong system in these problems is the Islamic knowledge system," he said.
Rofiah explained the problematic Islamic knowledge system, this knowledge system is related to world civilization and human civilization. For centuries, women were not seen as human beings. The burial of newborn children, and people's beliefs about women as inheritors, this incident is not only in the Arabian Peninsula, but in other parts of the world.
"For centuries, if human beings are only men, in English the word man does not only mean man but also means human being. Perhaps for centuries in English-using societies humans were only men," he explained.
"And not just in English. In Arabic too, the word rajulun does not only mean male, but can also mean human. Perhaps the Arabs also assume that humans are men," she emphasized again.
According to him, if the perspective of women is not human, the knowledge system will be the same. Because the perspective is formed from the worldview. Interpreting the perspective of women's true justice is by subordinating women and men as whole human beings.
"If the mindset is that men and women are not only physical beings, but men and women are also intellectual beings because they have morals, spiritual beings because they have a conscience, maybe this will be more fair for women," she said. (Linda Yuliani/Nanang Esha/Novia Syifaputri Ramadhan)
