Profile

Dr. Timo Duile is a researcher at the Department of Southeast Asian Studies, University of Bonn, Germany. His research interests encompass cultural anthropology, political philosophy, and the sociology of religion. He is widely known in Indonesia for his in-depth research on Dayak communities in Kalimantan, environmental issues—particularly land conflicts related to palm oil expansion—as well as for his critical analyses of secularism and religious discourse in Indonesia.

Dr. Duile is also actively engaged in the study of popular culture and local mythology, including his widely discussed research on ghost narratives (Kuntilanak) in relation to urban contexts and identity formation in Kalimantan, which has attracted significant public and academic attention.

In 2025, Dr. Timo Duile serves as a Research Fellow at the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training (FITK), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. In this capacity, he collaborates academically and in research with Dr. Ahmad Bahtiar, M.Hum., a faculty member of FITK UIN Jakarta. This collaboration is expected to strengthen UIN Jakarta’s international academic networks while promoting the integration of globally benchmarked scholarship and research.
