The Faculty of Medicine at UIN Jakarta Held a Health Webinar for the Public

UIN Online News - The Faculty of Medicine at UIN Jakarta held a health webinar on Saturday, May 4, 2024. The webinar entitled "Comprehensive Examination of Diabetes Mellitus: Is it Dangerous?" was organized for students and the general public through Zoom, YouTube, and Instagram channels.

The webinar featured speakers named Prof. Dr. Hari Hendarto, Sp.PD-KEMD, MARS, PhD, as a lecturer in the Department of Internal Medicine at FK UIN Jakarta, and Dr. Arifah Shabrina, M.Gizi, as an alumni of FK UIN Jakarta.

The event began with the recitation of holy verses from the Qur'an, followed by welcoming remarks from the faculty and the presentation of the material. The faculty's remarks were delivered by the Vice Dean II, Dr. Dr. Erike Anggraini Suwarsono, M.Pd., Sp.M.K.

Vice Dean II of FK UIN Jakarta, Dr. Dr. Erike Anggraini Suwarsono, M.Pd., Sp.M.K., expressed hope that the webinar would provide broader benefits for the UIN community and the general public. The webinar is a routine activity held by FK UIN Jakarta once a month.

"In addition to being beneficial, our hope is that it can also bring blessings to the speakers involved in each webinar. At the end of the webinar, we hope that the audience can provide suggestions for the next FK UIN webinar," she said.

Prof. Dr. Hari Hendarto, Sp.PD-KEMD, MARS, PhD, addressed several important points in this webinar. Vigilance against diabetes should begin now, as the number of people with diabetes increases every year.

"If prevention is not started now, a large part of the world's population could be affected by diabetes. According to data from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), Indonesia ranked fifth in the world for the highest number of diabetes cases in 2014," he explained.

Prof. Dr. Hari Hendarto, Sp.PD-KEMD, MARS, PhD, continued to explain that diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that cannot be cured but can be managed and lead to a healthy life. The key to successful diabetes management is discipline and self-control.

The second speaker, Dr. Arifah Shabrina, M.Gizi, also presented her explanations. Diabetes patients are advised to follow a diet with three criteria. First, based on meal portions according to caloric needs. Second, adjust the types of food consumed. Lastly, drink 1500 to 2000 mL of water per day.

"Preventing diabetes can be done by adopting good habits in healthy eating patterns. Enjoy with intention, spirit, and hopefully you can stay healthy," she said during the presentation.

After the presentation, the next session was a question and answer discussion from the UIN community and the general public. The webinar, attended by 70 participants, concluded with the virtual certificate awarding and closing prayer.
