The 69th Annual Convocation: Charting UIN Jakarta’s Vision as an Islamic World-Class Research Hub

JAKARTA, UIN Online News – Marking nearly seven decades of academic leadership, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta officially inaugurated its 69th Anniversary celebrations through a formal Open Senate Assembly. Operating under the banner “Celebrating 69 Years of Promoting Inclusive and Global Higher Education in a Nurturing Eco-Technology Environment,” the convocation served as a strategic arena to synthesize the university’s rapid globalization with critical intellectual reflections on the future of higher education.

The executive session commenced with an institutional address by the Secretary of the University Senate, Professor Masri Mansoer, followed by the annual report of the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Professor Asep Saepudin Jahar, Ph.D., who detailed the institution's transformation toward ultimate autonomy as a State University with Legal Entity (PTN-BH).

Professor Asep Saipudin Jahar's annual report showcased a heavily upgraded institutional profile, backed by 13 specialized faculties, a Graduate School, and 94 active study programs. Over the last fiscal year, the university has rapidly secured its position within international academic registries, placing firmly in the 801–850 bracket in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026 and securing the 29th rank globally in Theology, Divinity, and Religious Studies via the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The university’s research ecosystem has generated 124 Scopus-indexed publications alongside 50 accredited domestic journals, four internationally reputed journals, and dozens of patent registries. This global curriculum compliance is further verified by European-standard international accreditations from German-based agencies, ACQUIN and ASIIN, achieved by 44 of its study programs.

On the administrative and logistical fronts, Rector Jahar highlighted a 19.23 percent surge in Public Service Agency (BLU) institutional revenues, which climbed to Rp640.9 billion (approximately USD 39.5 million). This fiscal independence runs parallel with a comprehensive smart green campus transition, pushing the university to 238th worldwide in the UI GreenMetric index through solar power deployment and centralized zero-emission electric shuttle transit.

"UIN Jakarta is moving dynamic as a progressive institution that remains radically open to the shifting tides of time," Rector Jahar stated. "We are simultaneously preserving core ethical traditions while actively scaling global research networks to generate an authentic societal handprint."

While celebrating these modern performance metrics, the University Senate delivered a powerful philosophical counter-weight, warning against the total corporatization of higher education. Speaking on behalf of the legislative chamber, Professor Masri Mansoer issued a sharp critique regarding the modern obsession with purely market-driven curriculum adjustments.

"Higher education must absolutely remain relevant to technological disruptions, industrial demands, and national development footprints," Professor Mansoer argued. "However, we cannot allow the profound purpose of a university to be narrowed down into a temporary, short-term tool for immediate labor market placement."

To safeguard this institutional identity, the University Senate officially mandated five cross-border strategic imperatives for the incoming academic year:

  1. The continuous elevation of global academic quality assurance.
  2. The acceleration of secured, paperless digital operations.
  3. The immediate formulation of ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI) campus regulations.
  4. The expansion of transnational research and student mobility.
  5. The optimization of the university's eco-technology physical architecture.

Closing the executive assembly, the Chairman of the 69th Anniversary Committee, Dr. Achmad Zaki, M.Epid., expressed profound gratitude to the university leadership and alumni networks for executing the flawless convocation. He noted that this open senate marks the launch of a seasonal academic festival featuring global scientific symposia, sports tournaments, and community empowerment initiatives running through late September.
