LDKS FISIP Seminar: "Democracy on the Edge: Students Take Action and Play Their Part!"

Madya Hall, UIN News Online - The management of Campus Da'wah Institution (LDK) of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UIN Jakarta held a seminar themed “Democracy at the End of the Horn: Students Take Action and Take Role!” in the Muslim Revitalization Seminar 2024 event. This seminar aims to raise the awareness of students, especially FISIP students, in facing the crisis of democracy and the important role they can take in maintaining Indonesia's democracy in the Madya Hall of FISIP UIN Jakarta on Tuesday (17/9/2024).

This event is part of the effort to revitalize the values of Islam and democracy among students, as well as a forum for critical discussion about the condition of Indonesian democracy which is considered increasingly threatened. The seminar was attended by FISIP students, representatives of campus organizations, and participants who enthusiastically discussed the role of students in the current democratic situation. The event presented an inspiring and well-known speaker, Guru Gembul, who provided deep insight into the role of youth in democracy.

In his presentation, Guru Gembul revealed that the current state of democracy does seem to be declining, but he emphasized the importance of still believing that youth have great potential to change things. “Maybe democracy is going downhill, but remember and believe that heroes always come from bad circumstances. Then you young people will definitely be the ones who realize that meritocracy,” he explained.

He also emphasized that youth, especially students, are agents of change who must dare to speak up and move. “Students must be the spearhead of change, because we are the most critical part of society and the bravest in facing injustice,” he added.

The chief executive of the event, Yanuar Atha, in his interview said that the Muslim Revitalization Seminar is a form of effort to awaken and unite all FISIP students so that they are no longer divided into different camps. “Indeed, as a Muslim, we must see other Muslims as our own body. All Muslims are brothers. We endeavor to reunite because our opponent is only one, the oligarchy that is increasingly visible, “he said firmly.

The event ended with an interactive discussion between participants and speakers, and the announcement of a follow-up plan for similar activities in the future. Muslim Revitalization Seminar 2024 is expected to be the first step to creating a solid student movement in fighting for democracy based on meritocracy and social justice.
