From Medical School to Game Arena: Daffa’s Clash of Champions Journey

CIPUTAT, UIN Online News – Disproving the common assumption that medical students lack the time for extracurricular pursuits, Muhammad Daffa, a medical scholar from the Faculty of Medicine at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, has stepped into the national spotlight by competing in Season 3 of Clash of Champions (CoC) by Ruangguru—Indonesia's premier academic game show.

For Daffa, stepping into the game arena was not merely about winning, but about embracing new intellectual challenges and expanding his horizons alongside top scholars from leading Indonesian and international universities.

Daffa's path to the main arena required perseverance. Having been invited to apply during Season 2, Daffa was initially eliminated during the written examination and interview stages. Rather than retreating, he adopted a growth mindset and reapplied for Season 3, successfully securing his spot among the country's elite student competitors.

"A truly great person is not someone who never fails, but someone who learns from failure to move closer to success," Daffa reflected. "Meeting brilliant peers from top campuses across Indonesia and around the world was the most memorable part. It gave me fresh insights, broader dreams, and lifelong connections."

Clash of Champions evaluates participants through high-pressure cognitive games testing four primary domains: memory, numerical reasoning, spatial awareness, and logic. Competitors enter the main arena with minimal prior notice regarding specific game formats.

Daffa noted that while numerical speed challenges tested his limits as a medical student accustomed to biological sciences rather than advanced mathematics, the memory-based rounds played directly to his strengths.

1. Spontaneous Game Arena: Participants must adapt instantly to surprise game formats disclosed only upon entering the arena.

2. Cognitive Strengths: Leveraging medical study habits, Daffa excelled in high-volume memory recall, while actively pushing his boundaries in high-speed numerical calculations.

Following his national television appearance, Daffa plans to compete in national medical olympiads while producing educational digital content covering medical sciences and academic competition strategies for high school and university students.

Closing his interview, Daffa shared three core tenets for young scholars attempting high-level competitions:

"First, hard work is non-negotiable. Second, never give up when faced with obstacles. Third, never fear failure—treat every setback as an essential lesson on your path to success."
