Profile
Professor Danielle Haque is a scholar of literature and transnational studies who has served as Professor in the Department of English at Minnesota State University, Mankato (MNSU) since 2022. She holds a distinguished and multidisciplinary academic background, having earned a PhD in English Language and Literature from Cornell University and a Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School. Her primary research explores the intersections of secularism, race, and religion, themes that are examined in depth in her monograph Interrogating Secularism: Race and Religion in Arab Transnational Art and Literature (2019).
In addition to her work on transnational literature and critical theory, Professor Haque is deeply engaged in the environmental humanities. She serves as Co-Director of the Environmental Humanities Program at MNSU, where her research addresses topics such as ecology in Arab American literature and the cultural impacts of climate colonialism. Her scholarship reflects a sustained commitment to interdisciplinary inquiry and globally relevant humanistic research.
An internationally recognized academic leader, Professor Haque currently serves as President of the Arab American Studies Association for the 2025–2027 term. Her dedication to teaching excellence has been acknowledged through the Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award (2024), and her academic profile is further strengthened by her experience as a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). She has an established record of global academic collaboration, including her role as a keynote speaker at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta in 2022.
Beyond her scholarly achievements, Professor Haque is widely known for her active engagement in social justice, human rights, and academic freedom, contributing through professional task-force leadership as well as educational initiatives for marginalized communities and incarcerated populations
In 2025, Professor Haque serves as a Professor Fellow at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. In this capacity, she collaborates academically and in research with Hasnul Insani Djohar, PhD, a faculty member of FAH UIN Jakarta. This collaboration is expected to strengthen UIN Jakarta’s international academic networks while advancing the integration of globally benchmarked scholarship and research.
