Concluding National Gathering at UIN Jakarta, MAPK Alumni Across Indonesia Deliver Jakarta Declaration

FISIP Building, UIN Online News — The second National Gathering of Madrasah Aliyah Program Khusus (MAPK) Alumni from across Indonesia in 2025 officially concluded on Thursday (June 26, 2025), marked by the symbolic reading of the Jakarta Declaration by representatives from each MAPK. The Jakarta Declaration contains a number of collective commitments to advocating for MAPK's independence, strengthening Islamic education, empowering the ummah's economy, and defining the strategic role of religion in responding to global issues such as human rights (HAM) and the environmental crisis.

The reading of the declaration, marking the close of the National Gathering (Silatnas) of MAPK Alumni held at the FISIP Building, UIN Jakarta, from Wednesday to Thursday (June 25-26, 2025), included a segment read by Prof. Dr. TGH. Masnun Tahir M.Ag., Rector of UIN Mataram and Chairman of the PTKIN Rectors Forum, who is an alumnus of MAPK Mataram. Representatives from various MAPKs across Indonesia then took turns reading out the points of the declaration.

In brief, there are seven important messages from the Jakarta Declaration read by the MAPK Alumni from across Indonesia:

  1. MAPK Roadmap as an Independent Work Unit: Alumni commit to advocating for MAPK to become an independent work unit, both in structure and substance. The establishment of a National MAPK Guiding Council and cross-party synergy is also encouraged to ensure MAPK focuses on improving education quality based on pesantren and globalization.

  2. Reflection on Islamic Education and Ulama Cadre Formation: Alumni advocate for strengthening the existence of madrasahs, especially MAPK, and demand budget equality and attention to the rights of madrasah graduates.

  3. Alumni Organization Strategy: Independent, Productive, Networked, and Impactful: Alumni agree to form the Ikatan Alumni MAPK Indonesia (IKA MAPK Indonesia) as a formal, legally recognized organization, with a national board.

  4. Strengthening the Ummah's Economy: Regulation Revision and Islamic Philanthropy: Alumni advocate for optimizing Hajj waiting list funds for community development, transforming the BPKH (Hajj Fund Management Agency) mandate into a sharia investment institution, ensuring transparency of the ummah's endowment funds, and revising Hajj regulations for efficiency and equitable benefit distribution.

  5. Intellectual Diplomacy and Islamic World Issues: Alumni affirm their commitment to actively engage in Islamic intellectual diplomacy based on Islam rahmatan lil ‘ālamīn (Islam as a mercy to all creation), and to respond to global issues such as Palestine, Rohingya, and Muslim minorities with scholarly ideas and collaborative actions.

  6. Digitalization of Da'wah (Islamic Propagation) and Alumni Footprint: MAPK alumni across Indonesia encourage strengthening digital media literacy, developing digital da'wah platforms, and managing social media algorithms based on Islamic values.

  7. Religion Responding to Human Rights and Environmental Crisis Issues: Alumni state that MAPK's spiritual values are moral energy to advocate for social inclusion, human rights, and ecological awareness as part of a humanitarian jihad.

The Indonesia II MAPK Silatnas 2025 was held at FISIP UIN Jakarta. Over two days, MAPK alumni participated in various discussion sessions and brainstorming. Several themes were discussed, such as the development of MAPK as a model excellent madrasah, strengthening national education, strengthening the ummah's economy, alumni contributions and Islamic world diplomacy, digitalization of da'wah, and strengthening the role of religion in environmental crises.

The results of the brainstorming were then formalized in a statement of stance by the alumni in the form of the Jakarta Declaration, which was read by several MAPK alumni representatives. This Declaration, containing recommendations for various policies, was subsequently handed over directly to the representative of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, namely Dr. Anis Masykhur M.A., Head of the Sub-directorate for Vocational and Inclusive Education, Directorate of Curriculum, Facilities, Institutions, and Madrasah Student Affairs, Directorate General of Islamic Education.

The Silatnas event proceeded smoothly with the presence of the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. K.H. Nasaruddin Umar, M.A., who fully supported the strengthening of MAPK's existence. Also present were UIN Jakarta Rector, Prof. Dr. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi, S.Ag., S.H., M.H., Dean of FISIP UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Dzuriyatun Thoyibah, M.Si., M.A., and public figures such as the Chairman of the Indonesian General Elections Commission, Mochammad Afifuddin, who is also a MAPK alumnus.

Dean of FISIP UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Dzuriyatun Thoyibah, expressed gratitude for the holding of the Silatnas Alumni MAPK as part of FISIP's Dies Natalis series. She expressed appreciation to the Minister of Religious Affairs, the Rector of UIN Jakarta, and all public figures who are MAPK alumni for their presence and support.

“We extend our gratitude to the Minister of Religious Affairs, Prof. Nasaruddin Umar, for his willingness to attend and provide his support for this Silatnas event. Likewise to the Rector, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar,” she stated.

Similar appreciation was conveyed by Prof. Dr. Masnun Tahir. He added that the organization of this MAPK Silatnas was not only a moment for alumni to gather but also a strategic dialogue forum discussing local, national, and global issues. “This means that MAPK graduates care about the development of the nation and the world,” he added.
