Championing Trauma-Informed Child Protection, UIN Jakarta Daycare Hosts Expert Seminar to Combat Early Childhood Sexual Abuse
CIPUTAT, UIN Online News – Reaffirming its institutional commitment to creating safe, violence-free educational environments, the Center for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta commemorated National Children's Day by hosting an expert seminar titled "Overcoming Traumatic Experiences of Sexual Violence and Abuse in Children from a Psychological Perspective" on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
Held at the campus Daycare facility, the summit convened university executive leadership, clinical child psychologists, early childhood educators, and professional storytellers to address early intervention protocols and trauma-informed recovery for young children.
Addressing the assembly, Vice Rector for Student Affairs Professor Ali Munhanif, Ph.D., underscored that institutional vigilance must begin at the earliest stages of childhood education.
"Preventive education and anti-violence campaigns must be embedded from early childhood onward," Professor Ali Munhanif stated. "Sexual abuse inflicts severe, long-term psychological damage on a child's future. This seminar reflects UIN Jakarta's uncompromising policy against all forms of violence, safeguarding our daycare children, students, and the broader academic community."
Delivering the clinical keynote, Child Psychologist from RSIA Hermina Ciputat, Yusnita Katagori, M.Psi., emphasized that childhood trauma deeply disrupts a child's fundamental sense of safety, self-control, and trust.
She alerted parents and educators that young victims rarely articulate trauma verbally; instead, they exhibit subtle behavioral shifts such as regression to bedwetting, sudden academic anxiety, sleep disturbances, or emotional withdrawal.

Primary Intervention Mandate: Always believe the child’s account immediately without interrogation, offering unconditional reassurance that the abuse was entirely not their fault.

Avoiding Secondary Traumatization: Caregivers are advised against panicking, demanding repetitive retellings of the event, or abruptly restricting normal daily social activities, as recovery relies on gradually restoring emotional stability.
Head of PSGA UIN Jakarta, Dr. Hj. Wiwi Siti Syajaroh, M.A., highlighted that the seminar moves beyond mere ceremonial commemoration, serving as a concrete step toward maintaining an accredited child-friendly campus environment.
Featuring interactive storytelling sessions led by Siti Salma, S.Pd., Owner of Nara Alpha Cendekia, the event demonstrates to global observers how state Islamic universities in Indonesia integrate clinical psychology, gender studies, and specialized campus infrastructure (Daycare) to pioneer holistic child protection models.
