Profile

Dr. Alaa Mustafa Abdel-Maksoud Abu Ajeela is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Quantitative Economics, Faculty of Commerce, Al-Azhar University, Cairo. He possesses a strong academic background, having graduated as one of the top undergraduate students in 2002. He earned his Master’s degree from Ain Shams University in 2014, specializing in Islamic Finance, followed by a Doctoral degree (PhD) from Al-Azhar University in 2018, with a research focus on economic efficiency in public–private partnerships within the transportation sector. His professional career at Al-Azhar University progressed steadily from administrative researcher to assistant lecturer, before his official appointment as Assistant Professor in November 2023.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Alaa is a productive researcher whose scholarly interests include circular economy, Islamic digital financial inclusion, and the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as a strategic response to unemployment in Egypt. Beyond academia, he serves as Chair of the Economic Committee of the Egyptian Social Justice Party and is actively involved in several international professional organizations, including editorial board memberships for economics journals in Algeria and Morocco.

Dr. Alaa maintains strong international academic collaborations, particularly with Indonesia. This is reflected in his participation as a speaker at an international conference at UIN Imam Bonjol Padang in September 2024, where he presented research on the impact of the green economy on sustainable development in Egypt and Indonesia. In November 2025, he also participated as a researcher in the International Research Fellow Program at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.

In 2025, Dr. Alaa serves as a Senior Research Fellow at the Faculty of Islamic Studies (FDI), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. In this role, he engages in academic and research collaboration with Dr. Yuli Yasin, M.A., a faculty member of FDI UIN Jakarta. This collaboration is expected to strengthen UIN Jakarta’s international research networks while advancing the integration of globally benchmarked scholarship and research.
