UIN Jakarta Student Senate Evaluates Ideas of Gubernatorial and Deputy Gubernatorial Candidates for Banten 2025-2029

Main Auditorium, UIN News Online - Ahead of the Regional Head Election (Pilkada) simultaneously in November, UIN Jakarta Student Senate (SEMA) held a talk show entitled Building Banten's Future: Critical Review of Banten Policy 2025-2029 at Harun Nasution Auditorium, Tuesday (24/9/2024).

The event aimed to critically examine the vision-mission, ideas, and innovations of future leaders who will lead Banten in the next five years.

The event presented candidates for Governor and Deputy Governor of Banten, Airin Rachmi Diany-Ade Sumardi and Andra Soni-Dimyati Natakusumah. Also attending the event were the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Ali Munhanif, Ph.D., and two UIN Jakarta academics as panelists, Adi Prayitno and Asyari Hasan.

In her speech, the Chairperson of SEMA UIN Jakarta, Elok Azkiyatun Nafsiyah, said that this talk show intends to provide an understanding of democracy as well as a form of national commitment in overseeing the simultaneous elections.

She hoped that this event could increase political awareness and encourage student involvement to become smart and critical voters.

“With this Ungkap Banten, it is hoped that students and the campus academic community can be more aware of the importance of involvement in the political process and become smart and critical voters,” said Elok.

Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Ali Munhanif, welcomed the event. He emphasized that guarding the elections is part of moral responsibility.

“Input and criticism from the academic community of UIN Jakarta to the Banten governor and vice governor is a way for the campus as an academic community to take care of democracy,” said Prof. Ali while officially opening the event.

Furthermore, the talk show was hosted by Muhammad Burhanudin. He started the event by inviting the two pairs of candidates to come on stage. Then invited the panelists to ask several questions about work programs, innovations, and others to the two pairs of Banten's governor and vice governor.

One of the main questions asked by the panelists was related to how to collect the campaign promises of Banten's cagub and cawagub if they were elected.

Responding to the question, the Andra Soni-Dimyati Natakusumah pair said that they could not promise anything definite because they had not been elected. However, if elected they will form a team that can realize the vision-mission.

“First we have to become (governor) first, after that we will create a team, the team will make indicators that can implement campaign promises,” said Andra. “My campaign promise is to make free schools, if the free schools are not implemented, it means that I have failed.”

Meanwhile, the Airin Rachmi Diany-Ade Sumardi pair said the public could collect campaign promises by sending an electronic complaint letter or coming directly to the Banten governor's office every Friday on weekdays.

“Anyone who has a complaint can come directly to the governor's office,” he concluded.
