Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN Online News — UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta marked another major academic milestone by inaugurating six new professors during the Open Senate Session for Professor Inauguration at the Harun Nasution Auditorium on Wednesday (May 7, 2025). The addition of these six new professors is expected to further strengthen UIN Jakarta's Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (three pillars of higher education) and its scientific contributions.

The session was officially opened by the Secretary of the University Senate, Prof. Dr. Masri Mansoer, followed by the official inauguration ceremony conducted by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., through the presentation of official appointment letters and the ceremonial wearing of the academic sash.

The six newly appointed professors are: Prof. Dr. Flori Ratna Sari, Ph.D. (Professor of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine); Prof. Irma Nurbaeti, S.Kp., M.Kep., Sp.Mat., Ph.D. (Professor of Maternity Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences); and Prof. Dr. Sum’ainna, M.Si. (Professor of Applied Mathematics, Faculty of Science and Technology). Also inaugurated were Prof. Dr. La Ode Sumarlin, M.Si. (Professor of Biochemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology); Prof. Dr. Endah Wulandari, S.Si., M.Biomed. (Professor of Biochemistry in Biomedical/Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine); and Prof. Dr. Afidah Wahyuni, M.Ag. (Professor of Contemporary Fiqh, Faculty of Sharia and Law).

Each of the professors delivered an inaugural scientific speech in their respective fields. Prof. Flori presented a speech titled Cupping, Honey, and Black Seed: Prophetic Relics of Medical, Islamic, and Spiritual Integration. Prof. Irma spoke on Postpartum Depression, Women’s Health, and the Role of Nurses: An Integrated Service Model in the Indonesian Context. Prof. Sum’ainna discussed The Navier-Stokes Equation and Fluid Dynamics: Exploring Mathematical Complexity for the Advancement of Science and Technology.

Prof. La Ode’s speech was titled ‘Si Manis’: Nature’s Gift for Human Health (A Study on the Mechanism of Honey in Inhibiting Help-2 and A549 Cells). Prof. Endah presented The Role of Molecules, Metabolism, and Energy in Realizing an Optimal Healthy Society: A Transformation of the Free Nutritious Meal Program and a Foundation Toward Indonesia Emas 2045. Lastly, Prof. Afidah delivered a speech titled Batik Tulis Fashion as Halal Lifestyle: Preserving Indonesia’s Cultural Identity through Contemporary Fiqh.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Masri, on behalf of the Senate, expressed congratulations and appreciation for the appointment of the six new professors. “With the increase in the number of professors, UIN Jakarta’s academic quality will continue to rise, generating more groundbreaking theories, new technologies, innovative designs, and relevant and applicable knowledge models,” he said. He also emphasized that this milestone strengthens UIN Jakarta’s role in contributing to Indonesia’s progress toward becoming a more independent and prosperous nation, especially since UIN Jakarta now holds the highest number of professors among Islamic State Universities.

“As of today, UIN Jakarta is proud to have 144 professors across all faculties. They are actively involved in teaching, conducting research, and publishing scholarly work dedicated to advancing the university. Their presence stands as a testament to UIN Jakarta’s strong academic tradition and its wide-reaching societal impact,” he explained.

In his remarks, Rector Asep Jahar extended his heartfelt congratulations to the newly inaugurated professors. “This is an extraordinary achievement, not easily attained. Becoming a professor is the pinnacle of an academic career—equivalent to a general in the academic world. With it comes a great responsibility: to master one's field comprehensively,” he said.

He reminded the new professors that this achievement is not the end, but the beginning of greater service. A professor’s role includes advancing scientific knowledge, sharing insights with peers, and guiding students. “Let us not allow the title of professor to distance us from humility and camaraderie. On the contrary, the true character of a professor lies in humility, grace in service, and continued productivity in academic and social fields,” he emphasized.

He concluded by underlining that becoming a professor is a calling to embody the vision of being a person of benefit. “Though state compensation may not yet match the responsibility, we must remember that our goal is not material. In Islam, there is a principle: Khairunnas anfa’uhum linnas—the best of people are those who bring the most benefit to others. The best professors are those who enlighten, comfort, and inspire their communities,” he said.
