Rector of UIN Jakarta: Character and Language, the Key to Quality Islamic Education

Diorama Room, UIN News Online - In the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and 11 Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Program Keagamaan (MAN PK) throughout Indonesia, in Diorama Room of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta on Monday (5/8/2024), Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., highlighted the importance of character building and language development as the main foundation of Islamic education.

"What determines in the context of knowledge development is not only academic background, but also character," said the Rector of UIN Jakarta. It was also emphasized that Arabic and English language development, as well as character building, are key elements that will shape students holistically.

"Those who have knowledge but are not balanced with good character, their knowledge will only be their personal property, not for the benefit of many people. Therefore, we must focus on character building." Explained the Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.

This statement became the main highlight in the event held in Diorama Room, Harun Nasution Auditorium Building, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The Rector indirectly gave direction to MAN PK throughout Indonesia to prepare their students not only in terms of academics, but also in terms of language, and most importantly, character.

"Strong language skills and character will enable students to adapt quickly to the world of university and contribute positively to society," added the rector. He also highlighted UIN Jakarta's excellence in the field of religion at the international level which further reinforces the importance of language and character preparation for prospective students.

This view was welcomed by MAN PK representatives. "We realize that the success process of MAN PK does require a longer time. However, with a focus on language development and especially character building, we are confident that we can produce graduates who are not only intelligent, but also have noble character and are beneficial to the wider community," said the MAN PK Jember representative.

This emphasis on character and language is expected to bring significant changes in the development of Islamic education in Indonesia. By preparing students not only in terms of knowledge, but also character and language, it is expected that MAN PK graduates will be better prepared to face challenges in college and be able to make a positive contribution in the global community.

The collaboration between UIN Jakarta and MAN PK throughout Indonesia is an important momentum to realize the vision of holistic Islamic education. By combining academic excellence, strength of character, and language skills, it is expected that a generation of Muslims will be born who are not only superior in science, but also able to become agents of positive change that benefit the wider community.

The signing of this MoU is a promising first step. In the future, it is hoped that there will be more programs and initiatives that focus on character building and language development, so as to produce graduates who are not only intellectually intelligent, but also have noble morals, good global communication skills, and dedication to provide benefits to many people.
