Commemorating Earth Day, UIN Jakarta Plants 100 Matoa Trees

Faculty of Health Sciences Building, UIN News Online — In celebration of Earth Day, observed annually on April 22, UIN Jakarta expressed its full support for the One Million Matoa Tree Planting Movement initiated by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. This action serves as a concrete manifestation of the university’s commitment to environmental conservation and ecosystem sustainability.

As part of its active participation, UIN Jakarta planted 100 Matoa trees across several locations, one of which was the garden area of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES). The symbolic event took place on Tuesday (April 22, 2025), attended by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., along with Vice Rectors, Bureau Heads, Faculty Deans, administrative staff, and students.

Rector Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar stated that the One Million Tree Planting Movement is not merely a greening initiative but part of the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Eco-Theology program. He encouraged the entire academic community to actively engage in the Green Campus program as part of efforts to maintain a pollution-free environment at UIN Jakarta.
“This activity aligns with UIN Jakarta’s current development as a Green Campus. Therefore, similar programs will be expanded under the Green Campus Center. This is just the beginning of an ongoing effort,” the Rector said.

Before the symbolic tree planting, Vice Rector for Cooperation and Institutional Affairs, Din Wahid, M.A., Ph.D., shared that additional tree donations are expected from the Head of the Watershed Management Agency for the Bogor Region.
“In the future, under the coordination of the Green Campus Center, you are welcome to propose suitable locations for tree planting,” he explained.

The Rector further emphasized that planting trees is also a strategy for promoting the efficient use of alternative resources. Through this initiative, UIN Jakarta reaffirms its role as an institution of higher education not only focused on scientific knowledge but also on sustainability and the Islamic value of rahmatan lil ‘alamin—a mercy to all creation.

The event concluded with the symbolic planting of Matoa trees by the Rector and Vice Rectors at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Campus 2 of UIN Jakarta, followed by a group photo session.
