Asia-Pacific Competition: Dean of FST UIN Jakarta Wins First Prize in ICT Teaching

Jakarta, UIN Online News - Husni Teja Sukmana, Ph.D., the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, achieved significant recognition by winning the First Prize in the Teaching Competition.  

This event is a component of the Final Huawei ICT Competition 2024-2025 for the Asia-Pacific region, conducted in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, by the global technology firm Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.

The award ceremony was attended by several distinguished individuals. Included were the Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia, His Excellency Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir; the Director General of Higher Education of Malaysia, Prof. Datuk Dr. Azlinda Azman; and the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Nararya S. Soeprapto.

The committee's press statement said that Husni Teja Sukmana is considered worthy of the principal honor, outshining competitors from other nations. He is regarded as possessing unique and motivating pedagogical talents in the domain of information and communication technologies.

Alongside the accolade bestowed upon him, Huawei also conferred several participants across diverse categories in ICT:

  1. (NUS) National University of Singapore received the TECH4ALL Digital Inclusion Award in recognition of its initiatives to foster digital inclusiveness.

  2. (UTB) Universiti Teknologi Brunei received the Green Development Award for its contributions to the advancement of green technologies.

  3. (UM) Universiti Malaya received the Women in Tech Award through clever promotion of women's involvement in technology.

The committee's announcement said that the Huawei ICT Competition invited over 8,000 students from more than 20 nations, with 110 students from 12 nations successfully made their way into the final round.

Alex Zhang, Vice President of Huawei Asia Pacific Region, said in his address that Huawei is privileged to conduct ICT contests that involve students, lecturers, and scholars with the goal to promote digital economic growth, construct sustainable cities, enhance healthcare services, and improve educational quality.

"The objective is to establish a learning ecosystem that empowers future leaders to utilize technologies such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and cloud computing to create innovative solutions. Through this well-developed ecosystem, contestants will compete to devise effective solutions for diverse difficulties," he stated.

Representing the chairmen and academic community, the Rector of UIN Jakarta commended Husni Teja Sukmana for his achievement in the esteemed event. The recognition demonstrates that Islamic institutions are on par with the advancing technological education contests at the international level.

"This achievement also exemplifies the academic excellence of UIN Jakarta, characterized by high-quality educators who are competitive in the domains of science and technology," Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar M.A. Ph.D. praised.
