محمد أجمل شاه هو أكاديمي وباحث في مجال العلوم الصيدلانية، ويشغل حالياً منصب أستاذ مساعد في قسم الصيدلة بجامعة هازارا في باكستان. حصل على درجة الدكتوراه في العلوم الصيدلانية من جامعة برينس أوف سونغكلا في تايلاند بتقدير ممتاز (درجة "X" أو ما يعادل معدل تراكمي 4.00). وإلى جانب دوره الرئيسي في باكستان، يمتلك شبكة علاقات دولية قوية، وهو ما ينعكس في منصبه كأستاذ غير متفرغ (Adjunct Professor) في جامعة ديبونيغورو (UNDIP)، وأستاذ زائر في عدة جامعات إندونيسية مثل جامعة المحمدية بسوراكارتا (UMS)، وجامعة بانشاسيلا، وجامعة نغودي والويو، بالإضافة إلى مؤسسات أكاديمية في أوزبكستان.

ترتكز خبرته البحثية على تطوير الأدوية العشبية، لا سيما في مجال الاستخلاص الصديق للبيئة (الاستخلاص الأخضر) للمركبات النشطة بيولوجياً لعلاج الأمراض الأيضية والتنكسية مثل السكري، السمنة، ألزهايمر، وباركنسون. وخلال مسيرته المهنية، نشر أكثر من 100 مقال علمي في مجلات دولية مصنفة ضمن مستوعبات Scopus وWeb of Science، بالإضافة إلى مساهمته في كتابة 60 فصلاً في كتب علمية. كما أنه يحمل براءات اختراع تتعلق بتركيبات عشبية لعلاج السكري وطرق صديقة للبيئة لاستخلاص مادة البربرين.

يساهم حالياً بشكل نشط كزميل أبحاث (Research Fellow) في كلية الآداب والعلوم الإنسانية بجامعة شريف هداية الله الإسلامية الحكومية بجاكرتا (UIN Jakarta) لعام 2025. ويعمل في هذه المهمة ضمن شراكة أكاديمية وبحثية مع البروفيسورة أمليا فوزية (Prof. Amelia Fauzia, Ph.D)، الأستاذة بالكلية. ويهدف هذا التعاون إلى تعزيز الشبكة الدولية للجامعة ودعم تكامل العلوم والأبحاث وفقاً للمعايير العالمية.
